It depends. Most of the sports scholarships are granted for one year with the option of renewal. In most cases these scholarships are renewed automatically, however, low athletic ability, low grades or bad attitude may cause the scholarship not to be renewed.

In order to get an athletic scholarship it is essential to have some kind of competitiveness, otherwise the chances of getting the scholarship are very low.
